DVSA driving examiners and vehicle testing staff, who are members of the PCS, (Public and Commercial Services Union) are currently being balloted for industrial action.
This is a long running dispute over travel time, health and safety and further changes to their terms and conditions.
The DVSA intends to give managers the ability to deploy staff anywhere they choose, without notice, creating a "flexible working" regime. Staff would be expected to travel to these deployments in their own time.
It is said that these arrangements could mean that workers could end up effectively working the equivalent of an extra day each week for free.
This stalemate has been in the process since 2015, with PCS claiming that DVSA and the Department for Transport still refuse to resolve the issues.
Oh well! Life goes on, but the sooner this can be sorted out, the better, especially with the driving test changes rapidly approaching.
Warm Regards,
Tom Lowe.
